A month ago, Canonical launched a crowdfunding project on indiegogo to raise $32 million a month ago, according to foreign media reports. A month later, this Ubuntu Edge project apparently failed to reach its expected goal, but it still raised $12.8128 million to become the most popular crowdfunding project.
However, although the project did not reach the goal, the Canonical team did not intend to abandon the Ubuntu mobile phone program, the biggest feature of this mobile phone is the ability to switch between the Ubuntu Desktop operating system and the Android mobile operating system.
As funding fails to reach the target, funds that have been raised may be returned to donors one after another. However, Canonical's CEO, Jane Silber, said the company would still release an Ubuntu mobile phone early in 2014.
Of course, Canonical will not be the only manufacturer to launch Ubuntu mobile phones. According to estimates, many smartphones running the Ubutnu for Phones mobile operating system will appear in the market in 2014.
