There are two common sqlserver2000 communication protocols:
1: TCP/IP
2: Named Pipe
This is the default communication protocol of sqlserver2000. It uses/server name/pipe/SQL/query to identify the server.
The named pipe protocol accesses the named pipe through sharing. This requires that before access, the remote client must access the named pipe through an account/password that can access the shared resources of the server.
The simplest method is to use the net use command in the command line to establish a remote connection to the server.
For example: net use // myserver/IPC $ password/User: Administrator
Note: The password is the password of the administrator of the myserver computer account!
Administrator must be an account on the server with the permission to enable the named pipe server.
