Creating a Lite MySQL database bitsCN.com MySQL open source database for Web applications is a lightweight alternative to large databases such as Oracle and Sybase that consume resources. However, when users constantly demand more functions, they added a lot of functions that were previously only available in similar commercial databases, and the MySQL code library expanded out of control.
However, not all MySQL developers have applauded this development trend. Complicated functions, complex system architecture, and poor stability have led some developers to think that it is not only the time to roll back the cliff, but also a long time ago. In particular, customers of some Web application development groups have always wanted a streamlined MySQL database, so they do not have to waste time to maintain the high-end performance that is not available in Web applications. Now they finally waited for the response they wanted.
MySQL's technical director Brian Aker announced on Wednesday the Drizzle plan to be implemented with the goal of restructuring MySQL using a micro-core architecture. The entire plan will remove unnecessary functions from the core of the database and convert them into modules. in this way, you can load or cancel these functions as you wish. Currently, the modular tag has been attached to trigger, view, stored procedure, access control list, and some data types.
This project is mainly designed for "Web infrastructure backend and cloud computing components". to develop code that matches the popular multi-CPU or multi-core architecture, the project aims to enhance the large-scale concurrent processing capability, beyond the current MySQL execution capability. Drizzle supports both 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs.
MySQL AB, which owns the MySQL code library copyright, was acquired by Sun in April this year. Although the MySQL team is more or less independent of Sun, MySQL database should be regarded as Sun's software product technically. However, Drizzle, developed almost independently of Sun, is at least not a Sun product at present. Although several leaders of the Drizzle program work for Sun (MySQL), Aker says, "the development model of this project is based on Open Collaboration ", members of the entire community can participate in this project and contribute their own code. The source code of this project will be open under the license of GPL v2 specifications.
Although no specific timetable for the official release of Drizzle has yet been announced, we believe that with the joint cooperation of the community, Drizzle will become a product that will bring users into the eye. BitsCN.com
