Create multiple sde Libraries

1 Preface
During work, you may often encounter the creation of multiple SDE services on a single machine to manage operations on multiple spatial databases at the same time. On the ESRI website, copy % SDEHOME % to a new location and manually modify its parameters to create multiple instances. There are too many parameters modified in this method. The ArcSDE Post Installation graphic interface is used to create the SDE service, which is relatively simple.
This article introduces the SDE service creation process through the complete Installation and custom Installation of ArcSDE Post Installation. The first is to automatically create tablespaces, user names, and services. The second is to create the second SDE service when the tablespace and user name already exist in ORACLE.
These two methods are independent of each other and can be used as needed.
2. Preparations
Create two instances in the ORACLE database with different listeners and Network Service names. For example, the instance can be named ORCL and ORCL_1 respectively, and the listener uses 1521 and 1522 respectively. The network service name can be the same as the instance, or can be created as needed. For more information about how to create an ORACLE database, see the ORACLE Installation manual.
Before creating an SDE service, you must ensure that the ORACLE listening and ORACLE instance services in the service items are successfully started. You can run the netstat-a command to check whether the port is enabled, and ensure that the ORACLE communication is normal.
3. SDE service creation process
3.1 create the first SDE Service
When creating the first SDE service, you only need to follow the prompts In the ArcSDE Post Installation program and create the service by default, as shown in. Select the complete method.
 

 
After the system prompts "Next", enter the oracle sys user password and Network Service name. During ORACLE Installation, you can change the password of SYS. If the password is not changed during installation, the default password of SYS is change_on_install. The Network Service name, that is, the network service name of the ORACLE instance.
 

 
After entering the relevant information, you can modify the SDE user, password, and tablespace path on the interface as shown in. Generally, this step creates the SDE tablespace and user name by default, and can also be modified as needed.
 

 
After the settings are complete, follow the system prompts to perform operations step by step. Set the SDE service name and port on the interface as shown in. Use the default esri_sde and 5151/tcp, and enter the CMDL instance and service name respectively.
 

 
Follow the installation prompts to proceed to the next step until the installation is successful.
The following operations are simple and easy to learn. You can use this method when creating the SDE service for the first time.
3.2 Create a second SDE Service
In practice, it is often possible to create an SDE service after the tablespace and user name have been created in ORACLE, the following describes how to create a service when the table space and user name already exist.
Create SDE tablespace and SDE users in ORACLE and assign the Connect and Resource roles to SDE. Grant related system permissions: create procedure; create sequence; create table; create session; create trigger. Unlimited tablespace is included in the Resource role and does not need to be assigned separately.
Start ArcSDE Post Installation and select Custom to perform SDE Custom Installation.
 

In the next operation interface, cancel the selection of the first "Define SDE User Environment" and no longer create table spaces and users. When SDE is completely created, the tablespace format is. dbf, which is different from the ORA created in ORACLE. The Repository Setup option establishes a connection with the ORACLE tablespace and copies some tables to the SDE tablespace.
 

 
The following operations follow the wizard prompts that the installation process does not show the interface for creating a tablespace, the other steps are the same as the installation process, when you need to enter the ORACLE Instance name and service name, you need to enter the name of the second database, and give the SDE a new name and port number, such as esri-sde1 and 5152.
After the installation is complete, check the status of the created service in the service item. Sometimes the sde service prompts that the service is not automatically started in the service item after the creation is successful. In this case, select the service and start it manually.
4. Uninstall the SDE service.
If the created service cannot be started and you need to re-create the service, you do not need to uninstall the SDE program. You only need to find and delete esri_sde under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services in the registry, restart the machine.
