As the course requires a virtual machine to learn the minux operating system, I have installed VMwareWorkstation8, but it cannot run after installation. The kernelheader cannot be found. If the kernel header is installed, you can find it in the/usr/src directory. If not, run the following command to install it: after suyuminstallkernel-devel is installed, there is an additional 3.1.1-2 in the/usr/src/kernels directory .... I6

As the course requires a virtual machine to learn the minux operating system, I have Installed VMware Workstation 8, but it cannot run after installation, saying that the kernel header cannot be found, if the kernel header is installed, it can be found in the/usr/src directory. If not, run the following command to install the kernel:
Su
Yum install kernel-devel
After installation, a 3.1.1-2 file is added to the/usr/src/kernels directory .... The i686 folder indicates that the kernel header has been successfully installed, but the kernel header required by the virtual machine is located
/Usr/src/kernels/3.1.1-2. fc16.i686/include directory.
Use
Uname-r command to check the current kernel version

[Root@www.linuxidc.com Downloads] # uname-r
3.1.0-7. fc16.i686

It is found that the version is 3.1.0. It turns out that the version is incorrect. Just upgrade the kernel version and upgrade the kernel command (and upgrade everything that can be upgraded at the same time)
Su
Yum update

Then restart and select the kernel version 3.1.1-2 during logon.

After the restart, when we run vmware again, we did not find the kernel-header again, but we need to compile the kernel for vmware to use. After agreeing to compile and enter the root user password, the interface flashed, and I was shocked. Then .... Here we go ..

In fact, this is the case when many large software packages are installed. For example, IBM's Rational software architect is unable to access the required files because it does not have the root permission. So you can run it as root. The procedure is as follows:

Su

/Usr/bin/wmware

Then, wait for compilation. After compilation, you can see that the wmware interface appears.

After upgrading the kernel boot menu will have a few more options, remove the old kernel version menu method can see here: http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2012-03/55746.htm
