Dump Analysis Series 1: wdf01000.sys blue screen caused by abuse of debugging Switches

Recently, the blue screen analysis team has received a lot of user feedback about the wdf01000.sys blue screen. Wdf01000.sys is the Kernel Mode Driver Framework Runtime provided by Microsoft for Framework-based drivers. Is there a problem with this file or a third-party Driver? I searched the internet and found that many users encountered the same problem, but the specific cause is not very clear. So I decided to analyze the blue screen problem.
The Windbg analysis result is as follows:

This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.

We can see that the code at 84e56c52 in front of the blue screen is Wdf01000.sys, which calls DbgBreakPoint actively. It is exactly this call that makes the machine blue screen. DbgBreakPoint is a function to facilitate developers to debug. In an environment without a debugger, a blue screen is triggered. So is there a serious error that causes wdf01000.sys to fail to be executed, but only to make the system blue screen? According to the name combined with the msdn documentation, we know that this should be a sign of control debugging, should be in the Registry DbgBreakOnErrorControl.
Generally, the debugging status is set in the Process of program development to better detect problems. However, debugging and diagnosis modes should not be set for released programs. setting these statuses increases the additional overhead of the system and may lead to other unexpected side effects.
Back to the blue screen in this article, we can see from the stack that the system may be notifying the driver to stop working before going to sleep or shut down, waiting for a minute without responding, because the driver sets the diagnostic debugging status, the system calls DbgBreakPoint to interrupt the debugger, but the current environment is the user system rather than the development environment, and there will be no debugger, in this way, the system directly displays a blue screen. Here, a minute of no response may be caused by a problem in the driver's processing, or a busy system. However, no matter how the program is released, it is inappropriate to set the debugging status, resulting in additional functions.
Based on the above analysis results, I contacted several users to view the environment. It is found that this setting is basically enabled for mobile phone drivers and the settings are basically the same. These mobile phone drivers should be developed based on the same template driver.

So how can we fix this problem? We can open the Registration Table register (regedit.exe), locate [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservices], search for DbgBreakOnError and verifiron below, and then change the value to 0. A friend with similar problems can try this method.
