Last week, I attended the geek Park event in Guangzhou with the theme "people and machines ". Although the topic is about the relationship between humans and machines, I have seen many cases about emotional design. Every user is an emotional individual. How can we best meet their needs? In the process of human-computer interaction, how can we establish effective communication between humans and machines? After all, one side is a cold machine, and the other side is an emotional person!
In the movie "Casablanca", there is a line like this:
There are so many towns in the world, and every town has so many pub, but she walked into my town.
The pursuit of emotional design goals, but so.
Emotional design is not a design method. In my opinion, this is a design concept introduced around product experience issues. In design aesthetics, the relationship between people and things is often mentioned. The most important thing is to deal with the relationship between people and things. We need to look at products from the perspective of "people.
A common cup is no different from other cups, but it brings different feelings in front of different people. Some people will admire the proper shape design of the cup, some may question why there is no handle in the cup, and some may worry about whether it is easy to break because of the material of the cup-everyone is a hamlet.
Therefore, when people use products, the resulting experience becomes a gentle knife in your heart, letting users say to themselves like Humphrey Bogart:
Oh, my God, she walked into my pub!
From the perspective of people
Internet product design involves two words: "user value" and "User Experience ". Many people say they want to create the best user experience, but it is not easy to explain what it is. In my opinion, to explain the user experience, we must explain the user value. A product can be used first, then used, and finally brings a feeling of Physical and Mental pleasure. User value means that the "usable" needs are met, and the user experience is determined by the following two steps, to bring the "Easy to use" and "ready to use" user experience.
Emotional design is a way of thinking to enhance user experience.
During a Guangzhou activity in geek Park, a young man named Jo demonstrated a hardware product internally developed: walkie talkie.
This product is positioned to allow users to simply use the voice intercom feature in complex circumstances. Maybe you may wonder if a walkie talkie is suspected of repeating the wheel building process? In the next lecture, Jo fully elaborated on the application of "Emotional Design" on this product:
The first design style is a pen, which is easy to carry and use at any time. One interesting detail is that the top of the pen is a plug-and-play headset. Jo explains this design to facilitate private conversations in public.
The second design style is more like walkie talkie, which can be adsorbed on the fan blades of automobile air conditioners to facilitate the communication between self-driving users at any time.
The third design style combines the user scenario considerations. Jo explains that the front and back sides of the walkie talkie cannot be distinguished during the driving process, which may easily lead to difficult operations by drivers and drive accidents. Therefore, the microphone is changed from the side to the top.
The fourth design style is the optimization of the previous product. The button needs to be highlighted to facilitate the conversation through the touch, rather than the eyes. After all, when you are driving, you should look away from the front, it may also cause danger.
It's a really commendable design! In the process of explaining the design concept, Jo's most important point is to start from the Use scenario and user perspective-how should I use it if I am a user? This is a thorough and considerate consideration. Only by looking at problems from a human perspective can we have such an intimate experience.
From the perspective of people, people feel care-this is emotional design.
Human-Computer Interaction emotional care
Passkar said that people are a thought-provoking Reed. I think we can add the following sentence: "Human beings are full of emotion ". Because it is "full of emotion", product emotional design must pay attention to user use scenarios and emotions.
Like an excellent novel, emotional design first needs to bring users into a situation, and gradually starts from Maslow's underlying "security" needs, level 1 meets the top-level "self-fulfillment" needs, and then brings users into the story through the story.
Huang Xitong from the QQ space team told this story. What is the mood when a user opens a website and sees the 404 page for some reason? If it is just a simple page with 404 million words that cannot be accessed, no one will think that this page is cold, or even affects the mood. However, if you add some public welfare elements on such a page to make the page, which originally meant that it could not be accessed, have love and stories, attract people to pay attention to public welfare, and spread a "positive energy ", is it better?
The original cold server feedback is changed to a humane public welfare page to give people emotional care, which is also the embodiment of emotional design.
Emotional Feedback Mechanism
People need to be recognized and reported. At present, too many products do not meet the emotional needs of "identity and feedback" from the perspective of people.
When I am sad, I need comfort; when I am happy, I need to share. Everyone is always in touch with various products. What do you think of a product that lacks emotional design and brings inconvenience and frustration during use?
This situation should be improved. Google DoCoMo is full of fun, and Flickr focuses on providing a Warm Reminder. QQ strives to provide a version for the blind-many Internet companies have made emotional design deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
A little emotional design improvement affects tens of thousands or even hundreds of millions of users. I hope that more and more products will add a "human touch" to the design to make emotional design more popular. This is the real positive energy, isn't it?
