The Offline Address Book/OAB function in Exchange is a useful feature. To use the OAB function, you must configure a local copy of the server mailbox on the client or use a personal folder. Clients of outlook 2003 and earlier versions use the MAPI protocol to retrieve the OAB from EX, while clients of outlook 2007 or later retrieve the offline address book from the specified OAB distribution point.
1. Create an offline address book
Open EMC, expand "organization configuration"> "Mailbox"> "offline Address Book", right-click the blank area and choose "New offline Address Book" to go to the new wizard interface.
Note the following two points in the figure. To support Outlook or a later version of the client, you must enable web-based distribution and add it to the virtual directory, the optional CAS server OAB directory list is displayed. You can select a virtual directory or multiple virtual directories as needed. To support Outlook 2003, you must enable public folder distribution and first create a public folder database.
2. Configure the offline Address Book on the client
The offline address book is configured and used in three phases:
Generate (mailbox server) => Publish (Client Access Server) => download (Outlook client)
Microsoft has gradually removed the Public Folder feature since Exchange Server 2007. Therefore, this article does not discuss publishing offline address books through Public folders.
Outlook 2007: "Tools"-"Send/receive" and click "Download Address Book" to go to "offline Address Book ";
Outlook 2010: "file"-"information" Panel-"account settings", and click Download "offline Address Book.
3. Recreate the offline address book
Manual reconstruction:
Conclusion: In exchange server 2010, with the addition of new functions, Microsoft gradually abandons the use of the original public folder console and the use and management of offline address books, not too complex and practical.
