Introduction: the built-in graphics card driver is installed on Fedora 8 by default. This drive is only the basic function of the complete driver. As a result, the 3D acceleration function is not enabled. This article aims to solve this problem, this article is about the process of exploration, not specifically for ending.
There are many wonderful 3D games under Fedora 8, including a wide variety of strategies, actions, adventures, and RPG games.
At first I wanted to play, but the system warned that it was not supported by hardware accelerated 3D and could not run. It is expected that although my video card Geforce 6100 is onboard, it won't even be supported by hardware accelerated 3D. I also found that Fedora 7 was able to fully support hardware accelerated 3D, so I began to learn how to enable the hardware accelerated 3D function.
View the specific model of my video card chip
Many of my friends don't care very much about this: my model is Tom wwxxxx or rainbow YYYYZZZZ. If so, go online and check what OEM is. After reading it clearly, you can use/sbin/lspci to see what your GPU model is.
There is such a command: glxinfo, which can view glx information (this is really nonsense, as the name suggests, don't ask me what glx is, I don't know ), the query information contains the following sentence: direct rendering: No. If you see this sentence on the internet, it indicates that your video card driver is missing or at least incomplete.
By the way, I also found a command to test the performance of the video card: glxgears, which is above FPS ~~ Haha
That is to say, as long as the driver is fully installed, there will be support for hardware accelerated 3D. I heard that the nvidia official website has a driver. Select the geforce 6 series, geforce 6100, and Linux 64bit to find a result. Is there any installation instructions in the result. Download the driver from the Internet and install it according to the instructions.
During installation, you will be prompted to install it as root, and it will only be installed if X Windows is not started. What should I do if I solve the problem above? I press Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to return to the plain text interface for installation, but still prompts that no x is displayed. I am stupid. Later, I did not find out how to exit X on the Internet, but I knew how to log on to the vi/etc/inittab instead of entering X by default at startup, there is an init 5 with many comments next to it, which means 3 indicates initializing to the text interface, 4 is undefined, and 5 is logging on to the graphic interface. So I changed to 3, saving, restarting, logging on to the root account, executing the installation, and finally passing through (depending on whether the kernel has been compiled, the installation program will have some tips and choices, try to follow the suggestions ).
Change init 3 to 5 and restart the system to return to the graphic interface. You can play 3D games!
