Fixed the "update information is outdated" error in Ubuntu 14.04.

Have you seen the incorrect Red Triangle shown below on the top panel of Ubuntu 14.04?

The update information is outdated. This error may be caused by network problems or a repository is no longer available. Manually update by selecting 'display Update' from the indicator menu, and then check whether a failed warehouse exists.

It looks like this:

Here the pink exclamation mark is the original Red Triangle, because I used one of the best Ubuntu icon themes, Numix. Let's get back to this error. This is a common update problem that you may encounter from time to time. Now, you may want to know what caused this update error.

Cause of 'Update information is outdated' Error

The cause of the error is clearly described in its own error description. It tells you that "This may be caused by a network problem or a warehouse that is no longer available ". So either you have updated the system and some warehouses, or PPA is no longer supported, or you are facing a similar problem.

Although the error itself is quite clear, the proposed operation "Please manually update by selecting 'display Update' from the indicator menu to view the failed warehouse" does not solve the problem well. If you click show update, all you can see is that the system has been updated.

It's strange, isn't it? How can we find out what went wrong, where went wrong, and why?

Fixed the 'Update information is outdated' error.

The 'scheme' discussed here may be useful for these Ubuntu versions: Ubuntu 14.04, 12.04. All you have to do is open the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and then use the following command:

  1. sudo apt-get update

Wait until the command ends and view the result. Insert a prompt here. You can add a notification to the terminal so that you will be notified when a long command is executed. In the last few lines of the command, you can see what errors your system is facing. Yes, you will certainly see an error.

Here I see The famous GPG error: The following cocould not be verified error. Obviously, it is a bit difficult to install it in Ubuntu 15.04.

You may not see GPG errors like me. In that case, I suggest you read the article I wrote to fix various common update errors in Ubuntu.

I know many people, especially beginners, hate command line, but if you are using Linux, you will inevitably use the terminal. In addition, it is not as terrible as you think. Try it. You will get started soon.

I hope this prompt will help you fix the "update information is outdated" error in Ubuntu. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to raise them. We will not welcome them.
