Many companies that use SQL Server also use Office, and most of these companies have Office license versions that contain Access. In such a company, you can create a Microsoft Access project (ADP) file, which can be directly associated with SQL Server.
Once you create an ADP file, you can perform various operations in the Enterprise Manager, including creating tables, searching, storage programs, and user-defined functions. However, you cannot create and execute DTS Packages, nor create registration and responsibilities, because Access cannot replace Enterprise Manager for these features.
Follow these steps to create this ADP tool (this tool applies only to Access 2000 or Access XP ):
1. Create an ADP associated with the SQL database based on your choice. Make sure that the connections between them are successful, and the successful connection also depends on a variety of factors, such as integration or independent registration.
2. view the data window in Access. If you are using Access 2000, you will see independent tags for Queries and Stored Procedures. If you are using Access 2002 (XP), the two tags are merged into one.
3. Create a New Storage program or View ). You can see a wizard and a graphical environment in which you can drag, double-click different columns for different tables, and automatically add tables. When you create a structure, such as select top 10..., this environment is quite useful. No one said that the graphic interface can accomplish anything, but you can use it to accomplish many things.
4. Create a scalar or a table function ).
5. Follow the prompts and create required functions. Although these functions are relatively simple, they give you a perceptual knowledge of this job.
Enterprise Manager is used for maintenance rather than development. Many other companies provide corresponding tools, but these tools are expensive. Even if you get permission from these third-party products, you should check the Access ADP file before using it. Fortunately, you can also get all the features you want, which are free of charge.
