What is Docker?

Docker is an open-source Container engine built on LXC technology by Docker. Inc. The source code is hosted on GitHub and open-source based on the Go language and complies with the Apache2.0 protocol. Docker held the DockerConf June 2014 technical conference in 2014 to attract the attention and technical support from well-known companies such as IBM, Google, and RedHat, regardless of the Code activity on GitHub, or Redhat announced its formal support for Docker in RHEL7, which gives the industry a signal, an innovative technical solution. Even Google's Compute Engine supports running docker on it. The domestic "BAT" Pioneer Baidu App Engine (BAE) platform uses Docker as its PaaS cloud base.

Install Docker in Ubuntu14.4

Run the following command to check whether the curl command is installed:

$ which curl

If not, run the following command:

$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install curl

Get the latest Docker installation package and install it:

$ curl -sSL https://get.docker.com/ | sh 

Check whether Docker is successfully installed:

Sudo docker run hello-world
# This command downloads an image for testing and starts a container to run it.

The following error occurs during command execution:

 

This is because the docker service is not started. Run the following command to start the docker service:

sudo service docker start
