Install VMware on Windows XP and install on the Win2000 is no different, follow the steps to the line, configure the Linux operating environment, if you really want to play, do not save the hard disk space, anyway you have dozens of G, two g to give Linux is not too much, If you have more than two optical drive devices, such as a burner or something, don't forget to set the boot sequence in the environment, with the CD-ROM drive, save the burner.

In the environment, the virtual network card has a variety of settings, see your needs, if you just want to own, optional host-only, after all, to use Linux direct access to the Internet is not much, you have to set up their own Windows XP corresponding device IP, and Linux IP.

But if you choose Bridged, Linux usually gets IP automatically, if your broadband provider can provide automatic IP allocation.
