Intel builds the latest integrated cloud orchestration Tool
GuideIntel has decided to create a Ciao project to build its ideal cloud orchestration solution. Ciao, fully known as the cloud Integrated advanced orchestration tool, has quietly logged on to GitHub in just a few months, and apparently hopes to bring a unified future to the endless OpenStack world.

During the discussion, Intel found that the core point was how to take care of all virtual machines, containers, and bare metal servers as equal citizens in an orchestration solution. The reason is very simple. Almost all IT departments need to use hybrid workloads, or there is no single solution that alone supports traditional business environments. With this new solution, enterprise customers can aggregate various elements into a single mode-including Cloud analysis (such as Hadoop or Apache Spark ). To achieve this, the Ciao project must "make all adjustments to the existing scheduling tools" to completely reverse the situation of the existing orchestration solution (either supporting virtual machines or containers. Based on this situation, Ciao team defines media concepts at the top level, namely, workload level, to ensure that each stack in the same environment does not affect each other. In this way, the orchestration layer ensures that users focus on their workloads rather than on whether they exist in virtual machines or containers.

Ciao project itself has a very simple architecture, which includes three core components:

  • Controller-executes tenant workload policies;
  • Scheduler-managed by the Controller to implement a set of push/pull scheduling algorithms. The controller sends an instance to the scheduler, And the scheduler finds the "most suitable" Node among the computing nodes of each corresponding cluster;
  • Initiator: abstracts the startup details of a workload, whether it is a container, virtual machine, or bare metal. It also provides the scheduler with node statuses, the scheduler and the controller are provided with the status of each instance.
    In addition, the Ciao project also contains a series of network components to create an independent second-level network for each tenant, plus a command line interface and a Web interface.

Because the design goal is to provide cloud resources to multiple tenants, security needs to be carefully considered. In fact, the market's security requirements have changed dramatically over the past few years, so many initial ideas of OpenStack are no longer appropriate. Currently, all data transmitted over the line must be encrypted. In other words, due to security and privacy concerns, many enterprises choose to use private cloud.

Therefore, in the Ciao project, all communication content is encrypted, and each tenant has its own private network. at the management level, the virtual network of Super Users is completely isolated from other tenants. All communications in Ciao use simple and secure node transmission protocol (SSNTP), and use TLS to protect the connection security between different components.
