1. Background information
Goldendict is a very good cross-platform electronic dictionary software, support StarDict, Babylon and many other dictionaries. Its PC version is based on Qt and is completely free, open source and no ads. Goldendict's Android version is another new implementation of the system, using the paid version of the ads, the free version of the strategy to display ads, here is not discussed in detail.
Goldendict's address on GitHub is https://github.com/goldendict/goldendict, and as of Now (2015-10-17) There have been 1872 commits, 36-bit contributor, 184 times Fork, development is still very active.
But one problem is that the release of the software is not very well maintained. The download link on the official website http://goldendict.org/Godendict 1.0.1 was released in 2010 and now has 1337 commits.
If you are a Windows user and want to quickly install the latest development version of Goldendict, you can open this link: https://github.com/goldendict/goldendict/wiki/ Early-access-builds-for-windows. This Wiki Page is constantly being updated, so it's not a hassle to compile manually.
Users under Linux are less fortunate. Although there is also a page https://github.com/goldendict/goldendict/wiki/Early-Access-Builds-for-Linux-Portable, but has not been maintained for more than two years. The Ubuntu software warehouse is not much better, the above package has been discontinued since 2013, and there is currently no active PPA maintainer.
So under Linux, if you experience the latest goldendict, manual compilation is the only option.
2. Download, compile, install
The following will not nonsense, introduce the Ubuntu installation godendict development version of the method. The following description applies to Ubuntu 14.04, and if you are using a different distribution, you may need to make some necessary adjustments.
Install the necessary packages first:
sudo apt-get install git g++ libqt4-devsudo apt-get install Libvorbis-dev libhunspell-dev libao-dev Libavutil-dev libavfor Mat-devsudo apt-get Install Libxtst-dev libeb16-dev zlib1g-dev libbz2-dev liblzo2-dev Libtiff5-dev
Then download the latest source code:

3. Simple configuration, User Guide
If you haven't used Goldendict before, take a look at this section.
3.1 Preparing the dictionary file
Godendict need to run the external dictionary, first put the dictionary you need to use in any directory:
3.2 Adding a dictionary file
Then open the Godendict edit/dictionaries menu, add just the directory, tick Recursive, then click Rescannow.
When you're done, you'll see the newly added dictionary in the Dictionaries page:
Here you can change the order in which the dictionaries are displayed by dragging and dropping.
3.3 Set the theme style you like
To open the Godendict edit/preferences menu, you can toggle the display style to choose the style you prefer, such as the Lingvo theme:
3.4 Configuring Wikipedia
By default, the integrated English Wikipedia in godendict will prompt for each query:
Query Error:xml Parse error:unexpected end of file at
This is caused by the HTTP protocol not working. The workaround is simple: Open the Edit/dictionaries menu, click wikipedia, and then change the address of the English Wikipedia to https://en.wikipedia.org/w:
Now Goldendict will be able to display Wikipedia's content normally:
3.5 Adding phonetic fonts
I often put a golden hill on top of the query results a concise English-Chinese dictionary used to display the phonetic transcription. The dictionary uses a font called Kingsoft Phonetic Plain When it displays the phonetic transcription. Because the font has not been installed, the phonetic transcription shown above is incorrect. However, if you copy the fonts under Windows directly to Linux, you will find a box, which is caused by the TTF file encoding under Windows and the Linux difference. In order to display the phonetic transcription normally under Linux, the original TTF file needs to be encoded and adjusted. Here is a dedicated TTF file made by netizens:
Save the picture locally, and then change the extension to. rar to extract, you can get the file Kingsoft-phonetic-unicode.ttf. Copy this file to the/usr/share/fonts/truetype directory, then change the permissions to 644 and then log back in to make the font work.
If this image fails, you can download the font file from here: Http://pan.baidu.com/s/1qWnC9Gw. The resulting effect is as follows:
