In November 1, I read the article "Linux: How to build a square without rules", and I have to say something. This article argues against two articles, global Windows User Group shrinking and Linux Desktop refreshing. However, the counterargument is not necessary, but rather a "foreign appearance ".
In the article "Linux: how can we build a world without rules" (hereinafter referred to as "Rules"), the author does not understand the data sources and meanings of "global Windows User Group shrinking, by yourself, we are confused and make a "foreign appearance", and at the same time mislead the public. The global Windows user base is shrinking, "according to the precise automatic network statistics of www.w3counter.com, 6,268 (about 15,491,486) visitors are identified on 15 million large websites around the world and found that:
In October 20, 81.02% were Windows XP visitors, 4.14% were Vista visitors, 1.7% were Linux visitors, and 4.46% were Mac ox visitors.
In July 30, 83.89% were Windows XP visitors, 2.92% were Vista visitors, 1.32% were Linux visitors, and 3.66% were Mac ox visitors.
Apparently, Microsoft's Windows XP users dropped by 2.87% in the last three months, while Vista only increased by 1.22%, while Linux increased by 0.38%, while Mac ox increased by 0.80%, both have increased by 1.18%. We can see that the global Windows user base is shrinking. This conclusion is correct.
Here, the so-called "Linux has increased by 0.38%", of course, refers to the increase ratio relative to the overall statistics (officially named "sample space", that is, the captured 15 million groups, it is irrelevant to the actual number of users in Linux (not linked ). Here, the author of the article "rules" is totally wrong, and there is a sea. At the same time, according to the sales volume of Vista's 88 million sets (accounting for 4.14%) (note the word "estimation"), it is not hard to see that the number of Linux users worldwide should be around 36 million (accounting for about 1.70%. In the last three months, Linux users worldwide increased by 0.38% (0.38% compared with the "General Statistics"). That is to say, the total number of Linux users increased by nearly 8 million. That is to say, the number of Linux users increased by nearly 1/4 in the last three months. This is an arithmetic problem. Isn't it wrong?
According to the article "rules", the author's so-called "no rules" refers to the "Flowers bloom" of the global Linux release, and the author also asked with contempt: "Why is there no rule "? This is not the case. According to the statistics of the publication patron saint (www.distrowatch.com), the average hits ("h.p. D value, that is, "Attention") in more than one thousand of Linux releases only 1 ~ Two editions (Ubuntu and opensuse). However, today, the situation is much different. The average number of clicks per day is more than one thousand and the number of releases is increased to 7 ~ Eight types (pclinuxos, Ubuntu, opensuse, fedora, mandriva, sabayon, mint, and Debian release) can be described as "a hundred flowers bloom" and "competing for the competition ". In the past, according to my personal "Preferences", there is no doubt that I always pay attention to a Linux release, that is, the Ubuntu Linux release. It was just in October 29 that I had read Mr. Daniel Stenberg's article "distros don't drive development" ("(multiple) Release versions cannot be promoted") and I was deeply inspired, only then can we suddenly realize the principle of "blooming in the flowers. Mr. Stenberg pointed out that many release software packages only integrate the latest development achievements of many free software development teams. (The release software vendors) have not actually done any substantive innovation "work ", in addition to some so-called "glue code", he also pointed out that for many release versions, the technology can be used for reference and the style can be different, the "basic content" is almost the same, for example, the Linux kernel is the same (the version number may be different), the desktop platform is the same (gnome and KDE), the office suite and the Media Player, etc, they are also similar. Therefore, there is an objective possibility for many releases to "find the same brand and store small differences". There is no need to overemphasize the differences between their respective brands, and there is a possibility of "Big Union. To put it simply, the Linux release version can implement "big union" on the free software platform. As a result, I came up with the idea of making various Linux distributions "colorful. So far, the artistic conception of "Linux:" a hundred flowers bloom "can also become" a Square area "is expressed. (Note: "square" refers to rules or standards .) My intention is to break through the cage of windows and realize "big union ". Everyone who is isolated and exclusive must be forgotten.
Note: Professor Lu shouqun, Chairman of the open-source software promotion alliance of China, called me three times and told me to "stop here". Don't argue any more. I accept it and hope you will understand it.
