Open-source Linux embraces the on-board entertainment system
Pple CarPlay and Android Auto have begun to compete for the on-board entertainment system market, and now open-source Linux has begun to work in this field.AutoMotive Grade Linux (AGL) projectAnnounced the uniied Code Base 2.0, dedicated to car manufacturers and drivers to provide new on-board entertainment system support. The new code library supports voice navigation, back-seat entertainment systems, and applications. Version 1.0 was unveiled at CES this year.
Vehicle-mounted entertainment systems generally integrate navigation, multimedia playback, voice calls, and third-party applications. However, these applications are usually supplied by their respective manufacturers and equipment vendors, resulting in fragmentation and different interfaces. AGL tries to build a unified central console operating system to help automotive software engineers research and development.
AGL's main automakers include Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Nissan, Ford, and Jaguar/Land Rover. In addition, the hardware vendors include Harman, Denso, and Panasonic. AGL has been committed to the development of version 3.0 and is expected to make its debut in May. The Platform supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
