The prevalence of Internet and e-commerce has changed the enterprise Business Model. Currently, enterprise customers are not limited to Local customers. There may be customers around the world, and people's lifestyles may change, so there will be business opportunities at any time around the year, 365 days and 24 hours.
When an unexpected shutdown event occurs in the information system, in addition to the loss of productivity, customer and income of the enterprise. It may also be affected by further penalties, litigation, and poor reputation. In addition, having a High Availability model is a competitive advantage and service key that cannot be ignored. Therefore, many enterprises not only require the servo system to provide reliable and continuous operation services during working hours, but also hope to provide customers with 24X7 services for the whole year.
Introduction
In the commercial Unix Market, High Availability is the key to selling Unix server solutions. In fact, every Unix vendor has its own High Availability software solution. For example, IBM's High Availability Cluster software solution is HACMP (High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing) on AIX ). Many other major Unix vendors such as HP, Sun, DEC, and other vendors have similar software solutions available.
High Availability is the key to selling Unix to many enterprises today. Especially for servers that require web-based and other services that require a full year, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. This is especially true for the newly established grid computing market. However, there is no mature HA solution in Linux. Even the HA solution proposed by RedHat on Advanced Server 2.1 is quite different from the HA solution of other Unix vendors.
However, with the release of RedHat Enterprise 3.0, Red Hat launched a heavyweight Enterprise application "RedHat Cluster Suite" on it, which improved the situation. Cluster Suite includes two technologies: Cluster Manager and Linux Virtual Server. Cluster Manager is the best solution for HA. As long as two servers and shared external storage devices control the services executed by the server through Cluster Manager, HA can be easily achieved. However, Red Hat Cluster Suite is not included in RHEL 3.0 and must be purchased separately. Only rhel as and ES versions are supported.
