Are apple ready to relax its speech recognition application permissions? Or they may feel that their competitors are no threat compared with Siri. We have just learned that VoiceAnswer, a new voice response application developed by SparklingApps developers in New Zealand, has finally passed the Apple level after being rejected by Apple for nearly three months. It is now available in the AppleApp store, it can run on an iPhone, iPod, or iPad later than iOS 4.2.
It took almost three months before the launch to negotiate, sharpen and promote, and the founder martijnvandrespek told TechCrunch. Like Siri, this application is based on data from WolframAlpha and has other sources. It allows users to directly speak to an application or ask questions by hand. The price is £2. 49 ($3.99 ).
He said that the company is currently adding more features to the application in seconds, including location searching, email/SMS, and more voice function commands. In addition, it adds some sci-fi humor: it is ready to create a vivid robot on the interface.
On the contrary, other speech recognition applications are rejected by Apple, the most famous of which is Evi.
SparklingApps has another free speech recognition app, TalktoEve, in September. It was initially rejected because it was too similar to Siri, but later it passed Apple's review.
The Speech Recognition field is very promising. The major problem is whether third-party developers can defend against Apple. What they need to do next is to provide relevant and independent applications to customers. It may be more cost-effective to provide APIs to other developers.
