Oracle Instant Client instructions

 

1. Instant Clint description

Toad, PL/SQL Dev tools cannot use 64-bit oracle. Therefore, it is very troublesome to install 32-bit Oracle every time. To solve this problem, you can use the Oracle Instant Client.

With Instant Client, you can run applications without installing standard Oracle clients or having ORACLE_HOME. OCI, occi, Pro * C, ODBC, and JDBC applications can run without modification, while significantly saving disk space. Even SQL * Plus can be used with instantclient. There is no need to re-compile, so there is no worry.

We want toad to work properly, so here we download the 32-bit Instant Client. The star number is optional. Here we only download one basic package, which is only 50 MB, which is very small compared with the client's MB.

 

 

Ii. Instant Client Configuration

 

1. decompress the basic package to any directory. I will decompress it to drive D.

 

2. Create the Network/Admin directory under the Instant Client Directory and create the tnsnames. ora file. Modify the configurations of the net service.

 

3. Add D: \ instantclient_11_2 to the environment variable path.

 

4. Modify the Registry

 

Add relevant information in the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ wow6432node \ oracle \

 

ORACLE_HOME = D: \ instantclient_11_2

SQL _path = D: \ instantclient_11_2

LD_LIBRARY_PATH = D: \ instantclient_11_2

Nls_lang = american_america.zhs16gbk

Tns_admin = D: \ instantclient_11_2 \ Network \ admin

 

5. Start toad and you will be able to use it normally.

1. I have Windows 7, and the Registry location is different from that of Windows XP.

2. you can also specify other directories for tns_admin. For example, if you have installed the Oracle server, you can directly reference the configuration of the server. In this way, you do not need to perform the second step. You can directly modify the path.

The advantage of using tnsnames. ora on the server is that you can directly use the net manager tool to configure related information.
