A. Issues

1. What is Linux?

Basically Linux is a Unix-like, core-modular, fully memory-protected, multitasking operating system that was originally developed by Linus Torvalds at Helsinki University in 1991, and in the GNU General Public License License) under the issue.

2. Can my computer perform Linux?

The best part about Linux is that it can be performed on any underlying computer hardware.

3. Can Linux support my interface devices?

Maybe, or not. Most common interface devices-such as modems, printers, network cards, and so on-work well under Linux, but some operate better than others and others simply do not work. Here are some general rules for equipment compatibility.

Legacy ISA card : NE-2000 network adapter card, Legacy PA card (Sound Blaster 16) and U.S. Robotics Sportster Data machines can work under Linux, in fact, this is a great place for Linux: old hardware that should have been thrown into the garbage heap is still available.

PCI card : Based on experience, ISA is more feasible than PCI under Linux-at least for now, for example, many PCI data machines are almost "windows" data machines (refer to the instructions below), so they just can't operate on Linux. The latest PCI sound cards, such as Turtle Beach Montego and Sound Blaster Live, linux, are not supported (although developers are trying to solve the problem). Using the latest Linux core modules to help install PCI cards, many PCI Ethernet network (ETHERNET) cards and SCSI cards have been supported, details please check the dealer's Hardware support list.

5. How do I install Linux?

In order to work smoothly, it is best to list a list of computer equipment first. Unlike windows, which can identify hardware and its own configuration, Linux usually needs your help, writing down the following just in case:

Manufacturer, model, and interface for CD-ROM disk drives

Manufacturer and model of SCSI adapter card (if any)

Mouse type

Manufacturer, model, and memory size of the drawing card

Displays the manufacturer, model, and scan rate of the screen

All you know about network information (IP address, network mask, address, DNS address, domain name, and network card type)

Linux may ask you this information when you install it, but if you don't know it, you're going to freak out.

8. How do I perform Linux under Windows?

If you want to install Linux but someone at home has a passion for Windows, you can install both operating systems on the same computer. First set a dual boot system, so that you can choose to perform Windows or Linux on the boot.

B. Compatibility

Perform Windows or Linux

You can split a new hard drive into either DOS (Windows) and Linux, or use a utility that does not break the original data to split the existing hard disk (for example: V Communications system Commander Deluxe or partition Commander). Next, install Linux in the Linux partition and set up Lilo (with Linux), or install another boot management program that allows you to choose to perform Windows or Linux on the power-on.
