Since Windows XP, Windows has provided a "security center" function, including automatic updates, anti-virus software, and firewall, which can enhance the security of the system, on the other hand, many security settings are managed in one interface, greatly reducing manual intervention. The "security center" of Windows Vista is further enhanced than that of Windows XP. It provides more monitoring functions and introduces new components such as User Account Control and Windows Defender, it also integrates the content of Internet Security Settings. Today we will learn about this content.

  I. Awareness Security Center

Open the control panel, enter "Security Center" in the instant search box in the upper-right corner, and click the "Security Center" link in the result bar to open the Windows Security Center Main Window, as shown in figure 1. As you can see, the "security center" of Windows Vista can monitor the security configuration in four aspects:

Figure 1 Main Window of the Vista security center

1. Firewall: monitors the system's firewall enabling status. As long as the firewall is enabled, the security center reports that it is normal. By default, the firewall is automatically enabled. If a third-party firewall software is installed, the built-in Windows Firewall must be disabled.

2. Automatic update: monitor the automatic update function. If the automatic update is enabled, the security center reports that it is normal. However, it does not analyze whether all necessary update programs have been installed.

3. Malware Protection: Includes virus protection, spyware protection, and other malware protection. The security center monitors whether anti-virus programs and anti-spyware programs are enabled and whether these tools are updated to the latest status. Windows XP only supports anti-virus programs.

4. Other Security Settings: monitor other security settings of the system, including Internet Security Settings and User Account Control activation.

  Ii. Alarm and repair

As you can see in the preceding figure, only three Windows security centers are enabled and one is normal, which means that the Windows security center is in normal and secure status. If any problem occurs in the security configuration of the system, the security center will automatically trigger an alarm. The icon is a shield icon to remind us to fix the problem.

1. The basic security settings are disabled.

If the security feature of Windows Vista is disabled, for example, the Windows Firewall is disabled, a bubble prompt is displayed in the system tray area (see figure 2) to remind you that the Windows Firewall has been disabled.

Click this bubble prompt to automatically open the security center, and the firewall section is highlighted in red. As shown in 3, you can see the message "Windows Firewall disabled" under it, click "enable now" to enable Windows Firewall again.

2. The anti-virus software is disabled.

If security tools are not built into Windows Vista, such as third-party anti-virus software we have installed, if they are disabled or the real-time monitoring function is disabled, the security center also sends an alarm (see figure 4 ).

Click this bubble prompt to automatically open the security center. The "malware protection" section is highlighted in red, in the "virus protection" section under it, you can see related prompts. As shown in figure 5, click "show available options" to bring up a "select anti-virus software options" dialog box, select "I have a self-monitored anti-virus program" here.

Return to the security center. Now we can see that the "malware protection" section has changed from red to orange. In the "virus protection" section, we can see the "unmonitored" prompt information, click "monitor now.

  3. Shield alarm prohibited

If Windows Vista does not have the necessary virus protection software installed, or the virus protection software is not working properly, for example, if it is not updated to the latest status, the security center will pop up a bubble prompt in the system tray area, in addition, the "malware protection" section is highlighted in red, and the "virus protection" section under it will prompt the message "Windows has not found antivirus software on this computer, 6.

In other words, as long as there is a problem with the security center, the system tray area will display a conspicuous shield icon, which looks very annoying. If you think this icon looks a little annoying, you can make the following settings:

Open the security center window and click the "Change Security Center notify me of methods" link on the left side of the window. The dialog box shown in Figure 7 is displayed. Select "Do not notify me" here, but the show icon ", of course, you can also select" Do not notify me, and do not show this icon (not recommended) ", but in this way, you will not be able to understand the security status of the system in a timely manner.
