Vsphere Big Data Extensions (BDE) offers great flexibility in deploying a variety of vendor distributions for Hadoop, offering three values to customers:
Provides tuned infrastructure for supported versions of Hadoop that are certified by VMware and Hadoop release vendors
Deploy, run, and manage heterogeneous Hadoop clusters on a unified virtualization platform to meet the diverse needs of multiple tenants
Protect return on investment without being bound by a single Hadoop distribution vendor
Managing the Hadoop release
Apache Hadoop 1.2 is a native hadoop, bde of the open source community that already contains an installation package for Apache Hadoop, which allows users to directly create Hadoop clusters based on the Apache Hadoop version without additional downloads and configuration.
The Serengeti CLI provides a command line to see which Hadoop distributions are currently supported:
Distro List
This command returns what Hadoop distributions are managed by the current BDE instance, including the name of the release, vendor, version number, supported Hadoop-related components, and support for information such as HVE. As shown in the following illustration:
Users can also view all of the added Hadoop distributions through the BDE Web UI
Open vcenter Server Web Client and log in
Left navigation bar, click on the big Data Extensions
Under Inventory lists, click on the Hadoop distributions to view the results
