How does one use VMware to install linux on a virtual machine ?, Vmwarelinux

In the previous sections, we have created a virtual PC in the vmwarevm management software, but have not installed the linux operating system. Here, we will continue to explain how to install the CentOS version of linux for virtual machines.

1. Click the Virtual Machine Interface of VMware, select the created virtual machine CentOS6.6, and double-click the simulated optical drive device in the virtual machine. For example:

2. Change the optical drive settings and use the ISO image file to install the linux system.

3. Enable the VM, which is equivalent to powering on the computer to start the computer.

When the virtual machine is enabled, press Ctrl + G or click inside the virtual machine to redirect the input to the virtual machine, and then quickly press F2 to open the BIOS interface of the linux system. Because we use a CD to install the linux operating system, the first boot item of BIOS by default is hard disk boot. If you are installing the linux operating system through a CD on a real machine, you need to change the boot of the CD to the first boot item during installation. After the system is installed, change the hard disk boot back to the first boot item. However, if you install the linux operating system on a virtual machine, you do not need to change the BIOS startup Item settings. The virtual machine automatically identifies and adjusts the settings. Therefore, we don't have to worry about this step here.

4. After the VM is enabled, quickly change the VM's CD settings to the following settings, that is, select "connected" and "connect at startup", for example:

5. If the disc image file is correctly loaded and identified, the following startup interface will appear. If an error is reported, restart the VM and make sure that the disk is correctly set.

The following describes the meaning of the five options on the disc boot interface:

Install or upgrade an existing system: Install or upgrade the system (this option is used when installing the system ).

Install system with basic video driver: Use a basic graphics card driver to Install the system.

Rescue installed system: fixes installed systems.

Boot from local drive: Exit installation and start from hard disk.

Memory test: storage media detection.

6. Press enter to start the installation process. The following page is displayed: Do you want to check the disk image file? Because the CentOS system image file we downloaded is not a problem, so here we select "Skip (Skip detection)" to speed up the installation process.

7. If all of them are normal, you will enter the linux graphical installation interface. For example:

8. Click "Next. Set the language used during installation. Select "simplified Chinese" here ".

9. Click "Next" and set the appropriate system keyboard. Select "American English style ".

10. Click "Next" and select "basic storage device ". Then, click "Next ".

11. it will prompt you that the virtual hard disk of the virtual machine may contain data. Because we installed the operating system for the first time in the hard disk, the hard disk itself is empty and there is no data, select "Yes, ignore all data ".

12. Set the computer name of the Virtual PC. Use the default value. Click "Next ".

13. Set the time zone of the linux system. Use the default value "Asia/Shanghai. Click "Next ".

14. Set the password for the root account (root user, super administrator. For convenience, set it to 123456. Click "Next ".

15. What type of installation do you want to perform? The default value is "replace existing Linux system", which means to delete the previous linux partition and then partition and format it automatically. As we learn how to install linux, we also learn how to manually partition the virtual hard disk by selecting "create custom layout. Click Next.

16. This section describes how to manually partition and format a virtual hard disk (skip this step if you did not select "create custom layout" in the previous step ). During disk partitioning, the required partitions are root partitions (mount point:/) and swap partitions (no mount point ), the recommended partition is the boot partition (the mount point is/boot ). Generally, partition operations are performed in the order of starting, exchanging, and root partitions. The specific steps are as follows:

First, create a boot partition and click "CREATE ".

Select a standard partition and click "CREATE ".

Start to allocate MB of partition size. Click "OK ".

Then, create a swap partition (swap partition). The type is still standard partition and the size is allocated 1024 MB. Click "OK ".

Finally, create the root partition. The type is still standard and select "use all available space". (If you want to allocate disk space to other sub-directories, such as/home, separately, just before the root partition ). Click "OK ". Here, we only create these three partitions.

Click "Next" to format the virtual disk. Click "format ".

After formatting is complete, the following interface appears, indicating that the boot program is installed on the virtual hard disk. Use the default value and click "Next ".

17. After partitioning and formatting are completed, the page for selecting the CentOS Installation option is displayed. Generally, if you are familiar with linux, we recommend that you use "Minimal" to minimize installation. However, for beginners, if you choose to minimize installation, the commonly used software or commands may not exist, and beginners may be a little confused. In this case, it is best to select "Basic Server ". Here, we also select the "Basic Server" option and click "Next ".

The following describes the eight installation options:

Desktop: Desktop, that is, the graphical interface for installation.

Minimal Desktop: Minimize the Desktop, that is, install the Minimal graphical interface.

Minimal: Minimal installation without graphical interface.

Basic Server: Basic Server.

Database Server: Database Server.

Web Server: Web Server.

Virtual Host: Virtual Host.

Software Development Workstation: Software Development Workstation.

For different installation options, after the linux system is installed, the software or commands contained in the system will also be different.

(If you are very familiar with linux, you can also select "custom now" and manually select the software package you want to install .)

18. After the installation is complete, the following interface appears to inform you that the CentOS system has been installed and prompt you to restart. Click "reboot.

19. The CentOS system interface after the restart is as follows:

By now, the entire installation process of linux is complete.

TIPS: For vmwarevm management software, there are two shortcut keys that are commonly used.

Ctrl + G: directs the input (mainly the keyboard and mouse) to the virtual machine, or you can click it inside the virtual machine.

Ctrl + Alt: directs the input to the real machine, that is, returns the mouse and keyboard to your computer.
