One of the advantages of Android Studio is that the update iteration is fast. Each new release brings a range of features, new tools, and fixes to a bunch of bugs, all of which can increase user productivity.
Want to try out new features, but don't want to risk replacing the current stable development environment? So what should be done to update the way, how often to update it?
Choose Canary Version, beta version or stable version?
Use version canary to see the new features that will be released earlier. This version includes exciting new features, but is not stable enough because it has not been thoroughly tested. Use this version to always get the latest packages, even if this version is already a new beta or stable version.
The beta version is a pre-release version of the stable version. Theoretically there is no bug and is very stable. The beta version is generally not a canary iteration, it will be updated weekly/every two weeks prior to the release of the stable version.
The stable version is fully tested and is expected to be more powerful than the previous stable version. The update frequency varies, but is usually updated every 6-10 weeks.
The canary version is fun and helpful.
The canary version is a double-edged sword:
You can use the latest features, such as Android 2.0 for instant running, to make a miraculous improvement to your workflow.
The new feature may not be stable enough, or not good enough, resulting in lower production rates.
may have fixed annoying and disruptive bugs.
Canary version is not very stable, easy to crash.
I personally like the pre-release software. It's fun to see in advance, and the first step to using the product and providing feedback is a great way to improve the product.
But as a professional, getting my (or my team) productivity down is a risk that I'm deterred from.
In the early Dogfood test of the next version of the Android OS, I always carry two phones with me.
The same is true for Android studio testing.
Install two versions for a double fun
Install two versions of Android Studio, one with the stable version and the other with the Canary version to get the most out of both worlds.
