On twitter, many people asked me why I sold so few apps on the App Store? So I went to the App Store and checked their apps. Here I will summarize the concept of App idea:
1. Market Positioning
This is the first question I think you should ask yourself before making an app. How many people are your potential users. Many Chinese developers use Chinese dictionaries, English learning tools, or Chinese learning tools. With this positioning, you have chosen some Chinese iOS users who want to learn English and are willing to pay for it. Are there many of these users? If you break down, you will find that the market is very small, which is why some people complain that they only sell a few apps every day. How many potential iNotes users are there? I think almost all users who need to take notes using iPad can be potential iNotes users. If your idea has fewer potential users, you need to ask yourself if your app can achieve the first three. If not, I suggest you think about another idea.
2. time and effort
After coming up with an idea, the second question is how much time and energy you need to develop the app and how much energy and time you have spent on the app. If you come up with an app that requires the server to provide services and connect to the PC client, and then implement some extremely complicated apps, do you have time to do this? How long can it be done? Will iOS be upgraded to 5.0 again after you do it? Therefore, we recommend that you start from a small app. In another example, a friend on the Internet said, "Why do my apps sell so little? A friend can sell an application for $1000 a day ...", Then I would like to add a sentence, "the Three apps I made in one day". Oh, my God, it takes one day to do the three apps. Of course, the return will be a small one.
3. Pricing
My first app, voice card, was priced at $1.99. I sold more than 200 copies in the past few months. This failed experience makes me know that I should first ask myself before pricing, if you see such an app, will you pay for it yourself? Buying or not buying is helpful to your life and work? Small entertainment products such as voice card are better to get started in the form of free, and attract users to buy and upgrade services after they really like it. The positioning of iNotes is different. iNotes is a tool that helps users work and learn. After using this tool, it does bring great changes to your work and study, therefore, if it is a useful app, users are willing to pay for it. Voice card, a just for fun gadget, costs a dollar and users are very concerned.
In my opinion, if you have asked yourself all these three questions, you can start your development journey. Success!
