How to transfer a SQL Server database

I use SQL Server 6.5, (just use, novice), the original database server to be replaced, how can I transfer? The book at hand is not the same as my operating interface, it makes me angry! My basic idea is this: back up the database----with the *.dat file---Set the device, Library, table (*.sql file with isql to build the table structure) on another machine---restore with restore (should be the contents of the recovery table).
