This article is applicable to the GNOME version upgrade of Ubuntu 14.10. With PPA, the upgrade is simple. Open the terminal and enter the following commands in sequence:

Sudo apt-add-repository ppa: gnome3-team/gnome3
Sudo apt-add-repository ppa: gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
Sudo apt-add-repository ppa: ricotz/testing
Sudo apt-get update
Sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If you think there is a problem, use the following command to restore it:

Sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
Sudo ppa-purge ppa: gnome3-team/gnome3
Sudo ppa-purge ppa: gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
Sudo ppa-purge ppa: ricotz/testing
