Prerequisites:

I. SQL Server 6.5 is generally installed on Windows NT 4.0 and requires NT to reach SP4

It is better to hit at least sp4 and SP5 in SQL Server 6.5.

Ii. SQL Server 6.5 Tempdb database data files must be extended 10 M If the database you want to upgrade is large 500 M , It is recommended to expand according to the data file size * 10%

3. Back up the database to be upgraded to prevent failures during the upgrade process.

4. Set a password for SQL Server. It cannot be blank.

5. Prepare the SQL Server 7.0 Standard Edition (hard to buy now, and it is also extinct on the Internet)

6. Install the Standard Edition SQL Server 7.0. Note:

L in principle, SQL Server 7.0 can be installed on different machines, but it is recommended to be installed on the same machine.

If it is installed on different machines, it must be in the same NT domain and have the Administrator account and password for managing NT. Therefore, we recommend that you install it on the same machine.

L during installation, You must select the database character set and ISO 1252.

7. Set the SQL Server service startup account to Administrator. Set the sa password of SQL Server 7.0. It cannot be blank.

8. Click SQL Server Upgrade Wizard. Note that:

L there must be sufficient space on the system disk for backup database Usage After Upgrade

L when you need to confirm Character Set conversion, do not change it. Simply use 1252.

9. Back up the upgraded database and restore it to SQL SERVER2000. Note that all subsequent actions are performed on SQL SERVER 2000.

10. use SQL SERVER2000 Enterprise Manager to generate database object creation scripts (including tables, views, stored procedures, and all table constraints, in short, all features of database objects must be generated ). Change the generated script file and remove the character set qualifier "COLLATE SQL _Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS ".

11. Create a new database and execute the script file generated in Step 10.

12. Run the program SQL6ToSQL2000. EXE provided by myself. Data is transferred from a database with a character set of 1252 to a database with a character set of 936.
