Install Kali Linux on VMware Workstation
VMware Workstation is a powerful desktop virtual computer software. This software allows you to run different operating systems simultaneously on a single desktop. You can also develop, test, and deploy new applications. This article selects the Kali Linux wireless network penetration testing tutorial.
VMware Workstation can simulate a complete network environment and a portable virtual machine on a physical machine. When users do not have a suitable physical machine to install the operating system, it is a good choice to install the operating system on VMware Workstation. During Penetration Testing, multiple target hosts are often used as the target and are indispensable. Therefore, you can install different operating systems on VMware Workstation. The following describes how to install the Kali Linux operating system on VMware Workstation. This document selects the Kali Linux wireless network penetration test tutorial.
(1) download the VMware Workstation software, https://my.vmware.com/cn/web/vmware/downloads. The latest version of the software is 10.0.4, as shown in Figure 1.35.

(2) VMware Workstation can be installed on Windows and Linux systems. This book chooses to install the software to the Windows operating system, so choose to download VMware Workstation 10 for Windows. After the download, double-click the downloaded software name and install it as prompted. The installation method of the software is relatively simple. I will not explain it here.
(3) Start VMware Workstation and the page shown in 1.36 is displayed.

(4) you can see that there are six icons to click. Click "Create a new Virtual Machine". The page shown in 1.37 is displayed.
(5) The following two installation types are displayed: "typical" and "Custom ". If you use the "Custom" type for installation, you also need to manually set other configurations. The "typical" type is recommended here, and then click "Next" to display the interface shown in 1.38.

(6) select the method for installing the client operating system. You can see from this interface that three methods are provided. Select the "Install operating system (S) Later" option and click "Next". The page shown in 1.39 is displayed.
(7) on this page, select the OS and version to install. Select the Linux operating system and the version is "64-bit other Linux 3. X Kernel". Then, click "Next" to display the interface shown in 1.40.

(8) create a name for the Virtual Machine and set the installation location of the virtual machine. After the settings are complete, click "Next". The page shown in 1.41 is displayed.
(9) set the disk capacity on this page. If the current host has enough disks, we recommend that you set the disk capacity to be larger to avoid disk capacity insufficiency. Set it to 80 GB and click "Next". The page shown in 1.42 is displayed.

(10) The detailed information about the created virtual machine is displayed on the page. You can create an operating system. Click "finish" to display the page shown in 1.43.

(11) This page displays the details of the newly created virtual machine. Then you can prepare to install the Kali Linux1.0.5 operating system. However, you need to set some information before installing Kali Linux. In the VMware Workstation window, click Edit virtual machine settings. The page shown in 1.44 is displayed.

(12) You can set the memory, processor, and network adapter on this interface. After the hardware is configured, select "CD/DVD (IDE)" to display the page shown in 1.45.

(13) Select the "use ISO image file" check box on the right of the interface, click the "Browse" button, and select the Kali Linux1.0.5 image file. Click OK to return to the page shown in Figure 1.43. Now, you can start to install the Kali Linux operating system.
(14) Click the "enable this VM" command in Figure 1.43 to display a new window, as shown in Figure 1.46.
