According to foreign media reports on June 23, the French National Assembly recently announced that it would replace Microsoft Windows with Ubuntu Linux on thousands of office computers.
It is reported that prior to the launch of the next Parliament in February June, the French National Assembly will uninstall Microsoft's Windows operating system from 1154 office computers and install the open-source free operating system Ubuntu. In addition, these computers will also install a series of open source software, including free office software OpenOffice, and Web browser Firefox.
Media Analysis said the French Parliament's move was a boost to the domestic open-source industry. There is an open-source Forum organization named ObjectWEB in France, which consists of the IT enterprise Bull, France Telecom, and the research institute INRIA. However, this organization did not have any influence internationally. In last January, the organization and another open-source organization are merged into OW2.
Ubuntu is known as "Linux for All". It is based on Debian Linux and developed by South Africa's Canonical company. Unlike the Red Hat and Novell Linux, Ubuntu adopts a free-of-charge policy, which has become the mainstream Desktop Linux.
