KDE Plasma 5.8 will become the first LTS version

Shortly after KDE Plasma 5.7 was released, the KDE development team announced the KDE Plasma 5.8 development plan. This version will be an LTS version. As far as I know, it should be the first LTS version in the history of KDE. This also means that KDE Plasma 5.8 will focus on performance and stability, and will maintain at least nine minor versions with a maintenance period of up to 18 months, which lasted for one year in 2017 and lasted until 2018.

The LTS cycle of KDE Plasma 5.8 is exactly the same as the LTS cycle of Qt 5.6. The minimum version of Qt that KDE Plasma 5.8 depends on is Qt5.6. The Beta version of KDE Plasma 5.8 will be released on April 9, September 29-two days after the release of the last maintenance version 5.7.5 of KDE Plasma 5.7, and the official version will be available on April 9, October 18.

KDE Plasma 5.8 will bring about many improvements, but the most striking thing is that support for Wayland display servers will be completed.
