Linux Tarball Installation Recommendations

1 It is best to extract the tarball data into the/USR/LOCAL/SRC (as the file name can see)
Cd/usr/local/src
TAR-ZVXF softwareCode.tar.gz
2 each software is installed separately under/usr/local/softwarename (easy to reverse install)
./configure--help |less (check the parameters supported by configure)
./configure--prefix=/usr/local/softwarename (Specify the installation path to produce the appropriate makefile file)

Make clean; Make
Make install
3 Add the Software's man page to the man path below
Vim/etc/man.config

Manpath/usr/local/softwarename/man

Linux rpm and dpkg installation

Set source sudo gedit/etc/apt/sources.list

sudo apt-get update the command simply updates the list of packages and does not update the software.
