This article is basically my personal opinion, there is not the right place to criticize corrections, another article is only recommended arch, and did not say that arch is the most suitable for beginners.
My Way of learning Linux
Talking about my Linux learning path, time is not really long, 2014 May or so to join the group of Linux China, began to understand the system, and because it is a senior, I can not spend too much time learning Linux this system, but my experience has made me spend a relatively small amount of time, has been able to achieve the level of Linux as its own desktop system.
All the cause only because my computer only has the memory of MB, this makes me this has been the XP user, finally even the last QQ can be stuck to death, so endure for a long time, finally I went to find a solution to the method. Perhaps because of my idea, the solution is not to upgrade the hardware for the computer, but to find a replacement for XP system, this time Linux into my eye, everywhere is said that Linux lightweight and simple, and only a few 10 megabytes of memory can run smoothly. Of course this time I search out of the legend is certainly the most friendly to the novice Ubuntu, and finally I was excited to install it, was very happy, feel that they finally can change a system to play, can get rid of the past card machine. But it turns out that I was naïve, the Unity of Ubuntu desktop, my antique machine can not afford to play more card, even later installed Xubuntu also useless, encountered problems, I went to search the answer can be found, but the answer is basically ineffective, in the face of this situation, I was playing Ubuntu doesn't learn anything.
I'm a little frustrated with the Ubuntu experience, and it doesn't fit me. Then I learned about Debian, which was supposedly stable and robust. I this time with hesitant mood to install, the installation process is not as smooth as Ubuntu, remember should have encountered a little problem, but still solved. I was pleased with the Debian installation, and my computer, like the resurrection, would never get stuck again. But what can I do with Debian? I later found that I did nothing, I do not know anything, I will only use the mouse point, right click on the properties, double-click the click of the executable file. After two weeks (I only have half a day to come back from school to touch a computer), one day, I saw the Linux group in China talking about a distribution called Arch, out of curiosity I went for a search, this is the beginning of my encounter with Arch.
The design concept of Arch Linux is lightweight and concise. It was my intention, apart I started my Arch trip. At that time I did not understand what is the command line, the installation process is entirely referring to the process of the Arch Wiki, although I do not understand why, but I was a successful installation, watching my step-by-step command to install the system at that time a unique sense of achievement. The Arch Wiki offers one-stop service, with the arch of the system just installed without a desktop, but the Arch Wiki provides a detailed desktop configuration process, as well as an input method configuration process. Check your memory usage, LXDE + 32-bit Arch Linux, my memory footprint is about M, I know I found the true love, so have been using Arch so far, but also thanks to my Computer configuration is low, otherwise I will probably stay in Ubuntu.
Advantages of using Arch Linux
Why do I recommend Arch Linux? What are the advantages of a novice in relation to other distributions?
Many people will say that Arch is too difficult for beginners and not friendly to beginners. But I do not think so, the difficulty is because you stand in a higher starting point, and this high starting point will make you faster progress, understand Linux more quickly. What Arch has brought to me is such a learning experience. I never come to the meeting, it takes a long time to teach others, and maybe some people say I'm just a special case, so this article is written for those who want to be special. Learning is on their own, as long as their own heart, and what can not learn? Recently, "Linux China-Novice Village" QQ Group of many new people, always on their own to the answer, but did not think that they have done for this problem what to try, their perseverance to adhere to learn Linux?
Here are some of the reasons why you think you recommend Arch, just my personal point of view:
Arch allows you to get started with a higher starting point, but correspondingly, you will need a little patience to learn and you will learn faster.
The Arch Wiki is very rich and is a great tool to solve when we encounter problems. In the face of the problem, the first to the Arch Wiki search, the basic can be solved, this is more than the search engine to find out the Blog or other people write a few notes to be more reliable.
Arch uses a rolling update, so you don't have to consider the problem of reloading the system later.
In addition to the base package, Arch does not attach any extra items, so your system is basically what you need.
Arch's Pacman is a very simple and efficient package management tool that helps you manage your system easily.
Arch's AUR warehouse contains a large number of software packages that can be built with just one makepkg command.
Based on some of the above reasons, I think that Arch is actually suitable for beginners.
First it is more free than most other distributions; second, it has no pre-installed graphics package management tool, which allows us to complete most of our operations under the terminal, which will be a power and pressure to escape from the Windows mouse model because you have nothing to do with the mouse; and finally Arch. Wikis are a good example of how a Wiki can be configured for most packages and how problems can be solved in detail, which is certainly a boon for beginners.
I recommend that Arch actually puts itself in a relatively embarrassing position (but I don't think it's a dilemma, I was at first sight of arch, with great interest in the arch accepted, only in this way will activate your power, overcome it, you win yourself, harvest the skills, if you choose to give up, Then maybe you are not suitable for this kind of study.
End
It can be said that I learn Linux basically benefit from the Arch Wiki, it is for me to solve a lot of problems, no longer like a headless fly to search the answer, of course, you use other distributions can also refer to the Arch Wiki, do not waste this valuable resources. In addition, if you are really want to learn Linux, I recommend you look at the autobiography of Linus "Just for Fun", as well as bird brother's "brother's Linux private dishes." Linus's autobiography will make you understand a small part of the Linux story, I do is only just for fun, and bird's book can be used as a primer book, bird Brother wrote too detailed, selected part of the content is good. Finally, I wish you all the way forward in the next study.
