Linux system text Login interface Tty1~tty6 Terminal What's the difference

Source: Internet

1. There is no difference between the terminals, he is to facilitate the user's login. For example, I can use the same user or other users at the same time login, switch users, only need to use ALT+CTRL+FN switch, easy to manage.

2, for example, when logging in with Tty1, when the crash occurs, you can switch to Tty2 (ALT+CTRL+F2) and log in with another user, such as using the root user login, Ps-aux | grep program_name query to just the process that let the system crash, and then kill the PID off. The system will return to normal and the process can be started again through service program_name start.

3. You can view the currently logged-on user by using the W command or the WHO command. Where line that field represents the login terminal used by the user, Tty1 represents the Virtual Console, via ALT+CTRL+FN (n between 1-6). pts/n (this n theoretically no limit), remote login users, is the use of securecrt, putty and other remote login tools to log on users, his terminal display is pts/n, such as pts/0. On this machine, under the Xwindow, open the terminal, Also shown as pts/n oh.

4. You can change the number of Virtual Console Ttyn, in the/etc/inittab file, 1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty Tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty Tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty Tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty Tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty Tty6
These 6 lines represent the TTY that can be started. The first field (1-6) represents a number. The second field (see, all 2345) indicates that the Ttyn is started at that RunLevel, where 2345 means that the Ttyn is started at RunLevel 2345. If you only want to start a Ttyn at the specified runlevel, you can modify the value of this field, for example, Tty4 only at run level 35 o'clock (not 35, RunLevel 3 and RunLevel 5), and 24 can be removed. If you want to start a runlevel only need to look at the corresponding line (be sure to comment out, that is, at the beginning of the #, it is best not to delete, easy to add later, this is a good habit, usually to delete a configuration file in a row, please use # comments OH). To turn it back on, delete #.
