Vapp is a software solution initiated by VMware and optimized for the cloud operating system. A vapp is a logical or logical container that is made up of one or more virtual institutions and can be managed as a unit. A vapp is a container that resembles a resource pool and can contain one or more virtual machines. Vapp can also share certain features with virtual machines. You can turn the Vapp power on and off, and you can clone it. So a vapp is a logical container, just like a folder, which itself does not provide advanced functionality. Not as previously understood, Vapp is a VMware virtual platform-based application developed using VMware's own development tools. The Vapp is just a container for a simple virtual machine.

Vapp simplifies the deployment and subsequent management of such applications in multiple virtual machines by encapsulating N-tier applications into entities of a vapp. The Vapp encapsulates not only virtual machines, but also their interdependencies and resource allocations, enabling one-step completion of power operations, cloning, deployment, and monitoring of the entire application. VCenter server currently also supports the creation and running of Vapp and can be imported and exported according to the Open Virtualization Format (OVF) 1.0 standard.

Vapp metadata resides in the database of Vcenter server, so you can develop a vapp between multiple ESXi hosts. This information may be lost if you clear the Vcenter server database or remove the standalone ESXi host that contains the Vapp from Vcenter server.

First, create a Vapp

After you create a datacenter and add a DRS-enabled clustered host or stand-alone host to the Vcenter server system, you can create a vapp in folders, stand-alone hosts, resource pools, DRS-enabled clusters, and other vapp. The steps for creating a Vapp are described below.

Step 1 Select the ESXi host or cluster, right-click, select the "Create vapp" option in the popup shortcut menu,

Step 3 in the resource allocation interface, you can set up share, reserve, and limit to allocate CPU and memory resources to the new Vapp. Click the Next button,

Before you deploy the Vapp in step 4, you can check the Vapp settings and make any necessary changes by clicking the Back button to return to the relevant interface. Click the Finish button to

When you click the Finish button, a vapp is created that allows you to drag the virtual machine directly into the Vapp or create a new virtual machine in the Vapp.

Second, configure the Vapp

You can assign resources, reserve, or limit memory and CPU resources to a vapp as you would manage a resource pool. This is basically no different from managing a pool of resources. You can assign an IP address pool to a vapp, and then allow the Vapp to assign IP addresses to VMS in them through DHCP, or you can set the virtual machine boot order in the Vapp.

    1. Edit Vapp startup and shutdown options

You can change the start order and shutdown order of the Vapp. You can also specify the delays and actions that are performed at startup and shutdown.

In the Edit Vapp Settings window, in the Boot Order tab, select the virtual machine and use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to change the boot order. Virtual machines and vapp that have the same boot order (or within the same grouping) will start at the same time. The reverse order will be used to shut down the machine. Select the startup and shutdown actions for each virtual machine. Use the up and down arrows to change the delay time for each virtual machine startup and shutdown. Click the OK button,

2. Edit IP Assignment Policy

For automatic (temporary) IP assignment to work, you must use the vsphere client and configure the IP address pool.

Step 1 in the summary interface of the Vapp, click the Edit Settings button, and the Edit Vapp Settings dialog box pops up. On the Options tab, click the Advanced option, and then click the IP Assignment button at the bottom right of the interface.

Step 2 tick the DHCP and "OVF Environment" check boxes, then select the IP protocol IPv4 or IPV6 supported by Vapp, or both,

Step 3 in the Options tab, click the IP Assignment Policy option. Select an IP assignment option. Fixed IP addresses are configured manually, and no automatic assignment is performed. When the Vapp power is turned on, IP addresses are automatically assigned using the IP pool from the specified range. When power is turned off, the IP address is released. The DHCP server is used to assign IP addresses. Addresses that are assigned by the DHCP server are visible in the virtual machine OVF environment that is launched in the Vapp. A warning pops up here because there is no IP address pool configured in the vsphere Datacenter environment.
