DHCP refers to an IP address range controlled by the server. When a client logs on to the server, it can automatically obtain the IP address and subnet mask allocated by the server. First, the DHCP Server must be a computer installed with the Windows 2000 Server/AdvancedServer system. Second, the computer used as the DHCP Server must install the TCP/IP protocol, and set static IP addresses, subnet masks, default gateways, and so on. By default, DHCP, as a service component of Windows 2000 Server, is not automatically installed by the system and must be added.
