Features of the SQL Azure database preview include the ability of its associated data model to support Transact-SQL (T-SQL), storage programs that contain T-SQL; the ability of developers to link SQL Azure through familiar data access APIs, for example, ODBC, ole db, and ADO. net and PHP, and is highly compatible with SQL servers, so that existing business operations or applications can be easily migrated to the cloud system.

In addition, it supports automatic supply (Self-provisioning), can supply database capacity as needed, and has automatic repair and disaster recovery capabilities.

For SQL Server drivers supporting PHP 1.1, developers are allowed to use SQL Server or SQL Azure database to build PHP applications with associated database capabilities, it supports SQL Azure, PHP 5.3, and UTF-8, as well as Scrollable results and RowCount, can be moved to the SQL Server 2008 client architecture with better performance.

Microsoft said that developers can use SQL Azure to create Web 2.0 and ASP. NET, PHP, and other applications, and you can use familiar tools and data models to develop database services that are billed based on usage and have high availability and security.

Microsoft is expected to officially launch the SQL Azure service in November this year. Before that, SQL Azure was available for free trial. There will be two paid versions of SQL Azure database. One is the online version that can store up to 1 GB of associated data. The price is USD 9.99 per month, and the other is the Business version that can store up to 10 Gb of data, the monthly price is USD 99.99.
