A media failure is a physical file that is required by the database file to cause physical damage to the server process and the background process to be unable to read or write data to the database.

Media failures mainly include the following situations:

  • Failed to read and write database files because of a disk drive failure.
  • There is a problem with the file to be read/written (for example, a partition is damaged ).
  • The database file is accidentally deleted.

Media failure is the most serious failure. After a media failure occurs, the DBA must restore the media. The backup and recovery are mainly due to the failure of the needle media.
