According to Trustwave, 2012 of the passwords in all systems are "Password". The most common Password in commercial systems is "Password1 ". People are often the weakest part of any protection system. You can create the strongest lock, but you can't stop those who are absent-minded and don't lock the door; you can build a world's highest-end defense system, but you can't stop people who forget to start it; you can give people the simplest tools, such as a password, to help them protect their data, but they will still make a mess.
Computer systems often require users to set complicated things as their passwords. For example, they need a combination of numbers and letters. It seems that some users have completely introduced this system to the conception. They have not conceived a super difficult password, but instead chose the simplest and easiest combination.
Trustwave tried to crack about 1500 passwords with a $2.5 million computer and common system tools. It finally cracked 0.2 million passwords in over a decade.
The CNN Money Channel is often concerned with information from Verizon. It is observed that 29% of security systems have been compromised over the past 12 months due to weak passwords or the risk of being guessed.
Security researcher Dan Kaminsky commented on the findings: "setting a password to be authenticated is basic knowledge and is easy for each machine. However, of course, this is also common sense that they cannot recognize."
