For small-and medium-sized enterprises and administrative units, the shared network printer is generally used to alleviate this problem. However, the disadvantage of this practice is that it puts a lot of data processing pressure on the computer where the network printer is located, and the printing speed is also reduced. As a result, many printing server products are available on the market. Today, let's take a look at how to install and use the printing server.
The print server model used by the author is PRICOM C-5100, there are 10/100 Mbps network interface and parallel print port, support ordinary parallel port and IEEE1284 parallel port is high-speed bidirectional parallel port) printer, the printing server can be managed through the network.
1. Install the printing server
Next let's take a look at how to use a printing server to print other types of printing servers on the network. The installation and use methods are similar ). The author's network environment is a LAN with ten computers, and the IP address is automatically allocated.
1. First, use a common network cable to connect to the C5100 network port and connect to the switch or hub. Then, the device will automatically detect the speed and broadcast its network address.
2. Install the built-in PRICOM-Print CX software on any machine in the network and execute the Setup program. Select the installation method as "set PRICOM and install Print program ".
3. The fixed IP address of the device is automatically detected, and the IP address assigned by the current network is also available. It is easy to differentiate multiple print servers on the network. Select the device address of your printing server and click "Next" to enter the printer installation section. Bind the network IP address and the printing port. First, confirm that the printing server has been enabled, the printer has been turned on and connected to the printing server, and then click "Next ".
4. Specify the print port to the print server IP address, name the print port, and then select the printer with the specified port.
Ii. Use a printing server
For a workstation with a printer driver installed, you only need to set the print port to the printer server. For a machine without a printer driver installed, select "Add Printer" in the control panel and select a network printer. In the printer name or queue name column, enter the IP address of the printing server and the corresponding printing port number, for example, \ 192.168.2.58 \ Pricom C5100 System Default port name), and then install the corresponding driver, check the ing on the printer port settings, and you can use the print server to print the service for you!
Tip: if you cannot add a printer, you can solve these problems:
1. Some print servers need to add their own client protocols. Click "add> customer" in the Network Properties, place the printed server disc, select "Install from disk", and add a new customer protocol.
2. Install the IPX/SPX protocol.
3. Install Netware network customers.
4. The printed port name cannot be too long. Try to make it brief.
