"Linux Learning Notes" Why Samba?__linux

The transmission of early network archives data between different hosts is mostly using FTP, which is a useful server software. However, there is a small problem with using FTP to transfer files, so you cannot directly modify the file data on the host. That is, when you want to change a file on a Linux host, you will need to download the file from the server side to the client side before you can modify it, and the file will exist on both the server and client side. At this time, if one day you modify a file, but forgot to upload the data back to the host, then after a while, how to know that the file is the latest.

Since there is such a problem, it is possible to access the file directly above the server on the client side of the machine, and if the server-side file can be accessed directly from the client side, then there is no need for the file data to be present on the client side, that is, as long as there is a server The above files are available. There are no such file systems (file system). Happily, networkfile system, NFS is one of these archival systems. As long as I mount the directory that the server provides for sharing on the client side, you can access the file data on the server directly above the client's machine, and the data is like the partition on the client side. In addition to NFS servers that allow Unix like machines to share files with each other, there is a similar filing system on Microsoft (Microsoft), which is commoninternet file systems, CIFS. The simplest idea of CIFS is the "Network Neighborhood" that is now common. Windows system computers can share the data provided by other people through their "Network Places" on the desktop. However, NFS only allows Unix machines to communicate, CIFS only allows Windows machines to communicate. Nerve-racking, so is there a file system that allows Windows to share file data with each of the two different platforms of Unix-like?
