Q:Sun has recently been actively cooperating with various Chinese mobile manufacturers to develop value-added wireless services. Microsoft has just developed a group of smartphone products. How does Sun cope with this?

　　
JamesGosling:Microsoft is an interesting competitor. Sun's powerful weapon is the Java technology itself. At the same time, Sun has reached close cooperation with its partners to greatly support the software development team. On June 19, September 26, Sun and China Unicom announced the formation of an alliance. This is why China Unicom saw Java's proprietary nature in the mobile phone market and Java's openness and standards. Java welcomes competition, because only in this way can we maximize the improvement of technology in the field.

　Q:In recent years, many programming languages have gradually disappeared, while Java has become increasingly popular. What are your secrets?

　　 JamesGosling:In my opinion, many programming languages do not disappear in development, but are transferred to other fields. The persistence of Java depends on the technical foundation of Java. If you ask a programmer, why did you choose Java? He will tell you that Java provides a variety of functions, provides a convenient platform, and is an attractive tool. In my opinion, the main factor driving Java is the network. Java is a development tool based on network applications, which is its strength.

　　 Q:In the traditional computer field, Java is not a very large platform, such as the customized PC. In other fields, such as mobile fields, Java is developing rapidly. What is the future development direction of Java?

　　 JamesGosling:In the PC field, I do not think that Java is not powerful enough. In the PC field, Java has many applications, which are invisible on the surface. This is mainly because Microsoft has made great efforts to prevent users from seeing it, in fact, Java is widely used. For example, artificial intelligence games are widely used in other fields, such as real-time control systems on automobiles and railway locomotives, java is also widely used in military fields.

　　 Q:Many people in China use mobile phones and use mobile devices. What do you think about using j2s on newer devices?

　　 JamesGosling:The specifications of J2EE are constantly evolving, but our planning process is mainly driven by the increasing performance of mobile phones. Two years ago, mobile phones were far worse than today. My mobile phone is a Nokia mobile phone with 16 MB of storage memory. A few years ago, we thought that 16 MB can only be implemented on a very powerful desktop, so what we can do with mobile phones is becoming more and more interesting. This field has bright and exciting prospects.

　　 Q:Everyone calls you the father of Java. Can you share your deepest feelings in Java?

　　 JamesGosling:When we see that Java customers have done a lot of amazing work through Java, such as seeing the observation station on the macadamia volcano using Java to control the telescope, and seeing that the Dutch health care organization uses Java to solve privacy protection issues, that is a wonderful feeling.
　　Q:Sun has always said that the web Service developed by Sun is the best. Can you summarize its features? Why do you think so. How well does Sun work with Microsoft's web groups, and how is Sun's web service going?

　　JamesGosling:There are too many things to determine the advantages of Java. I think its biggest advantage is that Java is a powerful tool integrated with the efforts of many people and can provide many functions. Java meets network service standards and is highly secure. Sun spent a lot of effort on solving the interoperability with Microsoft, following international network industry standards to communicate with Microsoft tools, and developed a large number of related tools. Microsoft is a difficult company to cooperate with. It does not seem to have any word in the Microsoft dictionary. Sun has spent a lot of effort to follow Microsoft standards and expand interoperability. In the future, Sun's web Services will expand web application capabilities, expand universality, and develop edge applications.

　　Q:IBM and BEA are Sun's partners in many aspects, and their achievements in web services are also among the top. How does Sun view the relationship with IBM, BEA, and other vendors, where does Sun consider its advantages?

　　JamesGosling:Sun's competition relies on good products. Sun believes that the larger the market, the larger the opportunity to make money. Sun believes that it should work with vendors such as IBM and BEA to jointly develop the market, rather than monopolizing the market, for example, the market is like a piece of cake. Is it a small piece of cake or a large piece of cake. Sun's business model is to expand the market, which I think is better than Microsoft's monopoly market strategy.

　　Q:Have you ever had any problems with the disease? Are you ready now?

　　JamesGosling:I have all kinds of occupational diseases, that is, highly exhausting occupational diseases. My hands have various symptoms of occupational disease, but this disease is not really painful, but your nerves will be numb and may not feel it. You may not know how to cut your finger with a knife. This is terrible. If you want to sit in front of the table, it will be very harmful if you keep typing on the keyboard for 16 hours. You must pay attention to your health. 16 hours of work is by no means a good practice.

JamesGosling is vice president of Sun, CTO of Sun software department, and Director of Sun lab. He once created a satellite data interception system, a Unix multi-processor version, a compiler, a mail system, and a Windows Manager. He also created WYSIWYG's WYSIWYG test compiler.
