Myth #22: Resource regulators can control IO
Error
The resource Governor is unable to control Io, and the next version of SQL Server is expected to support regulatory IO, which is useful for reducing the performance impact of scan operations on large tables.
The feature resource Governor in the following list also cannot complete:
- Control buffer pool memory, the memory governor can only control the memory of the execution plan, but the cached data pages in buffer pool are not regulated
- Multiple instances can be used as a logical entity for resource control. This is not possible, for multiple instances of resource regulation can only be implemented through the Windows Server Resource Governor, on which the resource Governor is set on each instance
- Allows the resource governor to monitor the use of resources, alerting when thresholds are exceeded
Don't be wrong, I am not saying that the resource regulator is not good, but added the above function will be better.
One of my friends, also the project manager of SQL MVP Aaron Bertrand and SQL team, wrote a white paper on this: Using the Resource Governor.
