The substring () method returns a substring of the string. There are two uses of the substring () method in Java.
First Kind
Public String substring (int beginindex)
Second Kind
Public String substring (int beginindex, int endindex)
The meaning of the parameter
Beginindex--The starting index (including).
Endindex--end index (not included).
First: Returns a new string, which is a substring of this string. The substring starts at the character at the specified index until the end of the string.
Second: Returns a new string, which is a substring of this string. The substring starts at the specified beginindex until the character at the index endIndex-1. Therefore, the length of the substring is endindex-beginindex. Sample code:
public static void Main (string[] args) {
String Str = new String ("Hello Wrold");
System.out.print ("Return value:");
System.out.println (Str.substring (4));
System.out.print ("Return value:");
System.out.println (Str.substring (4));
}
Run Result:
return value: o wrold
return value: o Wrol
