The SWIFT team announced in its blog that the first developer preview of Swift's 3.0 language will be released on May 12, and the official version will be available in 4-6 weeks. The developer Preview phase has no definite update cycles and plans, but the swift team says it is trying to keep it within 4-6 weeks. On this schedule, Swift 3.0 will miss the WWDC release window, which is scheduled to be released with the new version of Xcode upgrade by the end of the year.
Swift's GitHub library will also be divided into three branches: the main branch, the Swift 3.0 Preview Branch, and the Swift 3.0 branch. Swift-based development will be limited to mainstream branches; The Swift 3.0 Preview Branch may have multiple sub-branches due to more proposals, and the SWIFT 3.0 branch will be used to publish a more stable developer preview version, which will be released as a "full release".
Swift 3.0 source code will not be compatible with the source of Swift 2.2 because Swift 3.0 includes basic language adjustments, optimization changes to the SWIFT standard library, and so on. However, the SWIFT 3.0 language will include the SWIFT Package Manager tool for the first time, enabling cross-platform application transformations, and Swift 3.0 will include the Linux core library.
The first developer preview of Swift 3 will be released on May 12
