According to foreign media reports, the European branch of the Free Software Foundation (FSFE) said on Friday that Oracle should hand over the MySQL database to an independent non-profit organization to allow the EU to approve Oracle's acquisition of Sun as soon as possible.

FSFE said that Oracle should hand over the MySQL database to an independent non-profit organization, which should cultivate and develop MySQL as a free software, so as not to threaten Oracle's database business.

MySQL founder MichaelWidenius said on Monday that Oracle should sell MySQL databases to allow the EU to approve Oracle's acquisition of Sun as soon as possible.

"MySQL needs a new home, but it cannot be Oracle," he said. In this new home, MySQL will not have conflicts of interests and will be further developed.

On Tuesday, the European open equity Organization (OpencentersGroup) said in a letter to the EU: If Oracle is approved to buy MySQL, the development of the MySQL platform in terms of functions and performance will be limited, this seriously damages the rights and interests of MySQL users.

Oracle announced in April 20 that it would acquire Sun for $7.4 billion, which was originally planned to be completed this summer. Currently, the transaction has been approved by the U. S. Department of Justice, leaving only the major obstacle of the EU.

The European Union believes that this transaction may lead to an increase in the price of database software and limit consumers' selection space for databases.
