Objective

Information visualization is an interdisciplinary field designed to study the visual presentation of large-scale non-numerical information. Data visualization (visualization) and Information visualization (infographics) are two of similar professional domain nouns. Data visualization In the narrow sense refers to the presentation of data in statistical charts, while information graphics (information visualization) is the visualization of non-digital information. The former is used to convey information, which is used to represent abstract or complex concepts, techniques, and information.

However, the present information visualization method is relatively single, people use more is infographics or dynamic graphics short film to express the relationship between information and information. From the perspective of human senses, infographic or dynamic graphics convey information only through the visual language of the plane (animated short films or with music, but the main way to obtain information is through vision). With the development of science and technology and society, human cognitive ability and aesthetic improvement, people have not satisfied simply through the plane to obtain information. How to present information through some novel and interesting ways is the question that we as designers need to think about. In this paper, some examples are presented and analyzed how to design and convey information from different sensory dimensions through a new medium of new media art device.

Installation Art

Before the case analysis, the concept of installation art is introduced to small white users. Installation Art (Installation art) is a type of Western contemporary art that arose in the 1970 's, many of whom traced the roots of the art of installation to the earlier artists such as Duchamp, who used ready-made materials rather than sculptures that traditionally required manual craftsmanship. Because the equipment art creates the material which uses very richly, its work conveys the information the dimension is also very broad, in the artistic language traditional plane painting compared with has the certain disadvantage. Similarly, with the changes of the Times, information design also needs to find a new medium to carry, to convey more dimensional, more abstract information. This paper analyzes the practice of information design in new media art installations in 4 directions and 10 cases.

I. The sculpture of network data

One day social sculpture

When Joseph Springs, by his "social sculpture", puts forward the concept of "everyone is an artist," and each person is in a different way to reshape or recreate the society in which they live, and this shaped society is extended or transferred from the real world to the virtual world: the Internet.

"One day social sculpture" This work extends the concept of "social sculpture"-"Everyone is an artist on the Internet." By acquiring data from the contributions of individuals in social networks, the real and virtual worlds are synthesized, creating a real sculpture every day. This sculpture is the result of the Internet, which extends to the concept of social sculpture, blurring the boundaries between the virtual and the real world.

Emoto installtion

Emoto This work produces an online visual interactive sculpture by capturing data from users around the world about the London 2012 Olympics. Based on a summary and real-time record of 1.25 billion messages on Twitter, Emoto online to get popular topics and the way they are discussed. Through this sculpture we can see the image of the vibrant data of the entire 2012 London Olympics, which is also exhibited at the Northwest Olympic Cultural Museum.

Filament Mind

Filament mind is an information-driven device designed to collect data on the preferences and questions of Teton Library visitors through the web and visualize it through a real-time, dynamic interactive device. The concept of this project stems from the fact that the urban space in which the artist feels we live should be more intelligent and interactive, as we can communicate with one another, so that our people's minds and the environmental space we live create an intrinsic social connection.

When visitors to the Teton Library search for a category of information through a computer, filament mind can quickly search for results with a flashing colored optical cable. Each of the 1000 fiber optic cable carriers relies on the number of DDS (Dewey Decimal System), a DDS that manages more than 1000 categories of data in the library, and the names of these software categories are displayed as text in the port of the optical cable, The port is connected to the most south and northernmost walls of the library lobby.
