Start the SSL function of the Serv-u ftp Server
Serv-u ftp Server is a widely used FTP Server software. It provides SSL functions but is not enabled by default. FTP transfers data in plaintext mode. To ensure data security, it is necessary to enable its SSL function. The procedure is as follows.
Step 1: Create a certificate for your Serv-u ftp Server. To use the SSL function, you must provide a Server certificate for the FTP Server. After the Serv-u ftp Server is installed, a certificate is generated, however, this certificate is the same on all Serv-u ftp Server servers and the private key of the Server is the same, so this is not safe. Before using SSL, we must create a new certificate. On the Serv-u ftp Server Management page, click "Settings" under "Local Server", and then select the SSL Certificate label in the right pane, fill in the IP address of the FTP server in "Common name", and fill in other options as needed. Then, click "Apply" at the bottom, in this way, a new server certificate is created.
Step 2: Click the domain name for which you want to enable SSL. For example, "zhz" in Section 1, there are three options under "Security" in the right pane. The first option is the default one, that is, "Regular FTP only, no SSL/TLS sessions". This option indicates that SSL is not used. The second option is "Allow SSL/TLS and regular sessions", that is, explicit SSL, it is determined by the client to use the connection method. The third option is "Allow only SSL/TLS sessions", that is, implicit SSL. only SSL connections are supported. The third option is selected here, click "Apply.
The FTP client also supports SSL
Many FTP clients now support SSL connections, such as Cuteftp Pro and FlashFXP. However, these things are costly, and although SSL is supported, they are not necessarily compatible with Serv-u ftp Server. We recommend a free FTP client that supports SSL connection: Secure FTP. It is a pure Java software and needs to run in the Java environment where the version number is higher than 1.3. You can verify the version by entering Java version in the command line, if the command cannot be executed or the version number is earlier than 1.3, you canHttp://www.sun.com.cnDownload and install the updated version. For Secure FTP, it can be stored inHttp://www.download.comDownload.
Use Secure FTP as follows:
Step 1: Start Secure FTP and click the traffic light button on the toolbar to open the connection dialog box. 3. Enter the IP address of the Serv-u ftp Server in "hostname, fill in the FTP account name and password in the following two columns.
Step 2: switch to the "Secutity" tab and click the drop-down box in the "Secutity" column. You can find that it supports two Connection Methods: normal connection and implicit SSL connection, explicit SSL connections are not supported (If you must use this connection, you can use the command line version of Secure FTP, which supports all connection methods ), here, we select "implicit SSL" and check "Data Encryption. Click "connect" to connect to the server. Because it is an SSL connection, the connection time is much longer than that of a common connection. When you use it for the first time, a dialog box for accepting server certificates will pop up. Click "Grant Always" to accept the certificate.
