Unable to apply SQL Server run MSDE Service Pack to MSDE instance installed by the. NET Framework SDK 1.0

Microsoft Visual Studio .Net provides two MSDE installers. One is provided with the regular Visual Studio .Net installer, which creates an instance of SQL called MSSQL$VSdotNET. Another MSDE installer is provided with the .Net Framework SDK, which creates an instance of SQL called MSSQL$NetSDK.

This update is intended only for machines that have an instance of MSSQL$NetSDK installed. To check if an MSSQL$NetSDK instance exists on your machine, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the /Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server folder. All unique SQL instance names will appear in this folder.

Attempting to apply this update to the MSSQL$VSdotNET instance will have no effect. If the /Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server folder contains an instance that does not have MSSQL$NetSDK, visit the following Microsoft Web site for information about the upgrade:

Note: This update applies only to the .Net Framework SDK version 1.0 and is a full upgrade of the currently installed Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine (MSDE) 2000 to Service Pack 3.

This update is for users who are using the .NET Framework SDK version 1.0. This patch installs a SQL Server Service Pack 3 that is specifically tuned for MSDE 2000.

This service pack provides additional security for MSDE 2000 installed through the Quick Start feature of the .NET Framework SDK. In order to upgrade MSDE 2000 installed by the .NET Framework SDK version 1.0, you must apply this update.

If you already have Microsoft Visual Studio .NET installed, you will need to apply this patch in addition to the regular SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3.

This hotfix protects MSDE 2000 from the W32.Slammer worm that is described in detail on the following Microsoft Web site:

Note: If you have already installed the .NET Framework SDK 1.0, but have not installed the "QuickStart" example, the included updates will be successfully installed and will replace the MSI and CAB files with the new SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 version.

You can choose to run a compressed package or save it to your computer.

If you choose to "run" this program from its current location, the installer will start automatically.

If you choose to "save" this program to disk, locate the NetFxSDK_MSDESP3_KB813850_lang.exe file that holds it ("lang" is the language identifier of the download file of your choice) and double-click the .exe file to launch the Service Pack 2 installer.

Note: You can also use /q to deploy this update in quiet mode.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Note: It may take a few minutes to install this update. Do not interrupt the installer while it is running.
